Then, on April 2, join us for the Volunteer & Opportunity Fair, where FRCC students and the broader Longmont community can meet local nonprofit leaders, learn about volunteer roles, and explore internship and community engagement opportunities.

Students and community members are invited to walk the event and learn about various opportunities to support nonprofits in our community.

Beverages and light snacks will be provided to attendees and FRCC Students have the chance to be entered to win a $500 scholarship during the event!

About the Film: Join or Die

Join or Die is a documentary inspired by the work of social scientist Robert Putnam, whose research explores the decline of community connection in the United States—and why it matters more than ever.

Over the past several decades, participation in civic life has dropped significantly, from community meetings and clubs to informal gatherings like neighborhood picnics. According to Putnam’s research, this decline in connection has serious implications—not only for individual well-being, but for the health of our democracy. Strong communities, built through shared participation and relationships, create the trust and social networks that help societies thrive.

Blending storytelling, research, and a call to action, Join or Die explores how rebuilding local connection—through clubs, organizations, and community involvement—can help reverse growing isolation and strengthen civic life. The film ultimately asks a simple but powerful question: what happens when we stop showing up for each other—and what could change if we start again?
